These artists include many of the greatest names in Western art but also lesser-known and contemporary ones too. They have been chosen because their art helps illustrate the principles underlying other art. Once familiar with these ideas, you will easily recognize them on your own. In the past only artists had such powers but now, with easier access to images, anyone can begin to see like a great master. Artists are arranged alphabetically by last name.
